Mount Tai
Mount Tai, located in Tai’an City, Shandong Province, China, is the foremost of the Five Great Mountains of China and is renowned as the “First Mountain Under Heaven.” Mount Tai is not only a treasure of natural landscapes but also a symbol of culture and history. Since ancient times, it has been a site for imperial ceremonies and sacrifices, symbolizing the stability and prosperity of the nation.
The natural scenery of Mount Tai is magnificent, with towering peaks and swirling clouds, offering different views in each season. In spring, the mountain is adorned with blooming flowers; in summer, it is lush with greenery; in autumn, the mountains are covered with red leaves; and in winter, it is blanketed in snow. The main attractions of Mount Tai include the South Heaven Gate, the Jade Emperor Peak, the Sun Viewing Peak, and the Eighteen Bends.
The South Heaven Gate is one of the iconic structures of Mount Tai, located at the end of the Eighteen Bends and is a must-pass route for climbers. The Jade Emperor Peak is the highest peak of Mount Tai, standing at 1,545 meters above sea level. From the summit, one can overlook the surrounding mountains and experience the grandeur of “viewing all small mountains below.” The Sun Viewing Peak is the best spot to watch the sunrise. At dawn, the sun rises slowly from the sea of clouds, creating a spectacular view.
Mount Tai is not only beautiful in its natural scenery but also rich in cultural heritage. The stone inscriptions, steles, and ancient buildings on the mountain bear witness to the long history of Chinese civilization. Mount Tai is also a sacred site for Taoism and Buddhism, with many temples and monasteries on the mountain, where incense burns vigorously.
